SUNDAY, Jan. 17 — After chaos descended upon the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, the city of Lansing took several precautions in preparation for demonstrations at the Michigan State Capitol on Jan. 17, including summoning the National Guard. Few protesters showed up at the Capitol, and the scene was quiet by 2 p.m.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made an appearance at the Capitol to thank members of the National Guard. "On behalf of our state, I wanted you to know how much I appreciate you and how much the people of Michigan are proud of the work that you do," Whitmer said.
