Eric Trump rails against Dems at Lansing rally

TUESDAY, Oct. 20 — U.S. President Donald Trump will get four more years as president.

So proclaimed Trump’s second son, Eric Trump, at a rally today at Schlegel Sand & Gravel, on Wood Road in Lansing, exactly two weeks from Election Day. The event was attended by a few hundred of the president’s supporters and had other speakers such as U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, R-MI, whose district includes Clinton County . 

Trump, 36, said the Democratic Party and its candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want to “censor you” and “want to keep churches shut.”

“It’s a Socialist party. It’s a Communist party,” Trump said to cheers from the crowd. 

He said his father’s campaign for president in 2016 was against “incompetence.” 

“They didn’t know what they were doing,” Trump said. 

The crowd booed when Trump said the Democratic Party wants to tear down his father’s border wall project. 

Ezekiel Moreno, from Lansing, attended the event as his first political function in his life.

“For the first time in my 44 years, I share a strong enthusiasm to be involved in the political system,” he said. 

As a Latino, Moreno said he looks beyond race and at Trump’s accomplishments in the White House as the main reason to vote for him.

“It’s about being more American than Latino,” he said. 

Moreno was also wearing a mask, one of a few among the attendees or speakers. COVID-19 has infected 4,239 people in Ingham County and killed 58 there as of Monday, according to State of Michigan data. 

Lansing resident Donalyn Kestner and friends she attended the rally with were not wearing masks. 

Kestner said she is a retired licensed practical nurse who worked for 25 years at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital.

She said she “has not met one person with COVID-19”. 

An Associated Press poll released Tuesday shows just 16% of Americans surveyed trust the president on information related to the virus.
